The most enjoyable CD in the room (in the whole wide room) May 29, 2010 Flight of the Conchords are the reigning kings of musical comedy. I first came across their TV show late one night by sheer chance and loved it instantly. Their quirky and ludicrous sense of humour can always raise a chuckle, even from this Australian mutha'ucka.
This album has a lot of tracks from the first series. Unfortunately some of the gems were left out (eg. 'The Tape of Love', and I would have enjoyed full versions of 'Bret You've Got it Going On' and 'Who Likes to Rock the Party?'). But there is still so much to enjoy. Highlight tracks for me are 'Think About It', 'Ladies of the World' and 'Inner City Pressure'. 'It's Business Time' is a classic song that tells you just about everything you need to know about male psychology.
You will probably get more out of this album if you have seen the series, but regardless it is still a great listening experience. Also, in addition to being funny most of the tracks have excellent melodic lines and grooves - it is a good album in any sense.
Flight of the Conchords May 15, 2010 This product arrived safely and sound and in excellent condition. I give it a two thumbs up.
These guys are great Apr 12, 2010 These guys are great comedians and musicians. The only con I have about the album is that the songs aren't exactly like the ones on their tv show, but they are still good.
Pretty Great Feb 27, 2010 While the Flight of the Conchords' television show may not believably convey the sheer hilarity of their live performances, it more than makes up for it with its delightfully deadpan characters and dialogue. Without the context of the TV show or a live audience, though, not all of their material packs the same punch. But fans would be wise to pick up this release for fully fleshed-out versions of the songs they know and love. Strangely, the only track that truly disappoints is the well-known "Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros." Its new lyrics don't match up to the ones they replace, and the lyrics left in place just don't sound quite the same as they used to. I guess this is just a band that truly has to be seen to be believed.
Standout tracks: Inner City Pressure, Robots, Business Time
Music, Comedy, Fun, Awesome Smile maker, You Betcha Feb 12, 2010 OK, I can say a lot about this album but I do not need to. This album delivers every time. The music arrangements are spectacular and correlate directly with the intent of the lyrics. These guys did it right. They obviously love to play music and excel at their craft. Thank heaven someone out there is thinking outside the box. I found only one flaw in the whole production. They messed up the clapping in the "Think About It" song. The only thing that does is make it more relatable and real. This album has been in my top 10 most listened to pieces since I got it on its release. Anyone that complains that the studio takes away from the humor is not listening as much as they are trying to find fault with a CD created to deliver great music with lyrics intended to put a smile on your face. That's it. No more complaints. Stop. This is an awesome CD. Anyone that thinks they are comics and not musicians need to try to play the bass lines in these tunes. When you think you have that down then try the guitar leads, the rhythms, harmonies, and percussion. They are simply great. If you still do not understand what I am saying you either do not play an instrument or are looking for this CD to be in a different category. This album simply puts a smile on my face and give me a reason to sing my brains out in the car. When it's all over, I find the quality of time spent listening was happy and musically stimulated. What else would you want from a CD? GREAT JOB! Give us another.
BTW, the review for I Told You I Was Freaky is below. You guessed it; I liked it.
I don't want to sound like Mel but after this compilation was released, the amount of time I spend listening to it would lead most to think I'm freak 'ka'. Musically, this album simply jams. The care put into producing the sound, pitch, clarity, rhythm, and humor make this an awesome piece of listening art. There is a simplicity that makes this musically fun to listen to but also complex enough to make it tons of fun to play along to on keys or strings. People beat this up comparing it to the first album but if you compare either to any, and I mean any other CD you have bought in the past decade, you will need to search far and wide for more creativity and fun this CD delivers. The humor is dry and character driven so that it stimulates the best sarcastic and creative senses that made Seinfeld such a pleasure. If you are not listening carefully you'll simply miss some of the funniest material released in music. When Jemaine says "oh nooo what" in Were Both in Love with a Sexy Lady it makes me bust up. It actually pulls the listener into the song. This is Smothers Brothers meets Quincy Jones and the combo is great. If you do care about entertainment that is creative and funny; check it out. It is no wonder they stopped after the 2nd season. This much creativity, time in the studio, quality of production, obscure humor, TV contracts, would burn any 2 people out. I have thousands of albums in my collection. This album and the first release are in my permanant rotation. They simply put a smile on my face and a beat in my day. The first album is a great place to start. I hope this one is not the end. Keep it up guys; GREAT JOB! Thanks for making it fun.
