greatest sketchbook I've owned Jul 29, 2010 The paper is thick and very smooth. I sketch with a heavy hand and even the heaviest marks don't make the other side of the page bumpy - excellent. No show-through for felt-tip pens either. There is bleeding with Prismacolor markers though - but those will bleed through everything. I wouldn't try watercolors.
My favorite is the binding; it will allow you to open the sketchbook almost perfectly flat, so drawing a two-page spread is a breeze. There is no valley in the middle for your pencil to get lost in.
Overall a great sketchbook! People may complain about Moleskines being the "Mac" of writing supplies (overpriced brand-name, etc.)... but this really is great quality. I'm getting my second soon.

would be great for art, not so much for writing Jun 24, 2010 I gave this 4 stars only because I bought it for use as a journal (I don't like writing on lined paper) and even though the notebook is, of course, superb, the paper is SO thick it seems unnecessary for writing. But I suppose if you plan on using it for sketching, painting, multi-media, etc, it would be absolutely perfect. You can't do better than moleskine!

Great for Field Jounals May 30, 2010 I bought this book to use for use in my environmental studies classes. I use a crappy notebook while out in the field and make sloppy notes then neatly transcribe all my notes and sketches into this book. The size is perfect, just right for making notes and decent sketches, while being portable. The pages are thick, I use a fine sharpie marker/pen and it doesn't bleed through. I love the unlined pages, it gives the appearance of those old school notebooks. The book is quality made. I have inspired the other students in my class and even my instructor to purchase this book.

Moleskine Notebook Feb 11, 2010 Fantastic little Moleskine sketchbook. Use it probably every day.
Compact for convenient storage and travel, high-quality product.
Definitely recommend.

A fantastic home for "the stuff of life" Feb 10, 2010 Expensive? Yes. Pretentious? Probably. Useful? Incredibly so. I use notebooks all the time to document thoughts, ideas, drawings, etc., and I've used any number of brands of these small, nicely bound notebooks. But, alas, none has quite compared to the Moleskine. The quality of the pages of this notebook is very high, and the stock is quite thick. Unlike many other brands of notebooks, ink doesn't tend to seep through to the other side with this, and the binding is also very strong, which is always a plus. Obviously, if you carry this thing around, you may appear to be quite the smug, self-important "d-bag"-- but given ultimately, I value the commitment of my ephemera to paper more than I value my money and social standing. You gotta have priorities.
