5A Mssterpiece Megatron  Jan 07, 2010
Finally the figure that all Transformers fans as kids wanted but could never find, and very detailed and poseable. I did give durability a 4 because the his body does not support his arm being raised with the cannon on it, so do not let the picture fool you. The detail is very nice and he looks great in Robot or Gun mode. If this was the only Transformer from the 80s you bought, it would be well worth it.

3Think this one through before buying it  Nov 29, 2009
As several have said, I too own the Masterpiece Optimus Prime. And while a bit challenging to master, he is a very sturdy, very good figure.
About a year ago, I bought Masterpiece Megatron... and unfortunately he doesn't live up to the quality Optimus does.
Megatron ships in his robot mode, which doesn't look bad, in fact it does look good, except his limbs are a little too thin. The designers tried to compensate for this by having parts that widen to try to bulk him up, but it isn't fully successful. And if picked up in the wrong way, these pieces collapse back into place.
He has a good amount of possibility, but the problem is that parts meant to turn and pivot don't do so too well.
He also has his hhhuuuuggggeeee fusion cannon. It's massive compared to him. Bigger than is should be compared to robot mode. It's scaled for gun mode, which causes the problem for bot mode. And it's so heavy that it's tough to pose him with it on his arm holding his arm up. His arm almost always has to hang down. When a friend of mine first saw him, he wondered why he had a big freaking cannon coming out of his side. I certainly couldn't get him to arm his cannon straight ahead like the picture on this page shows him... at least not with some additional support.
And transformation... what a nightmare. But maybe I'm being too dramatic. I love transformers, and rarely have a problem with the most complex of them, but this guy gives me serious problems. In more than a year of owning him, I can't have tried to transform him more than a hand full of times, because he's just so fragile. In fact, I did break off a tab on one of the trigger guards one of my first times converting him.
When (and if) you complete transformation, you wind up with an over sized Walther P-38. He looks pretty good in this mode.
Accessory wise, he comes with his fusion cannon (of course) which has a red LED inside to simulate it firing. He comes with his energy mace (to offset Optimus' energy ax), mountable on his arm. Although, the chain for the mace is too long, and I wish they would have put a piece of wire or something to pose him with it swinging in mid air.
Then there's his lightsaber (with detachable blade) and hand gun, both from his final fight scene with Optimus in the 1986 movie. And then a little Kemzeek figure.
Overall, the figure is... frustrating to play with. If you get him into the desired mode you want him in, he looks good. But he wouldn't hold up to much play at all.
Simply put, the designers were tasked with too big a challenger: Make a realistic looking gun into a robot. And not just any robot, into Megatron, and given a specific way to transform him. And they tired, but the end product wasn't exactly what we hoped for.
So buyer beware... if you want a Masterpiece Megatron to ofset your Masterpiece Optimus Prime, and are willing to put up with the frustration of both transformation and posing the robot AND the fact that the robot mode isn't as good as Optimus's, this figure might work for you. If you're looking for a figure for a child, look somewhere else. I'm serious. This figure will not stand up to rough play ware.

5The Toy  Jun 27, 2009
I love this toy. It is close to the real deal Megatron. My son plays with it and I love that it isn't an easy puzzle to put together. Everytime I atempt to transform it, it is a challenge. I'm glad I bought it. = D

5Simply Amazing  Jun 13, 2009
As a huge G1 Transformers fan I have been wanting this figure since I first heard that it was coming out. My first impression was how big this figure is, it was massive and had a good heft to it. Megatron's robot mode looks beautiful and is very close to what he looked like in the old cartoon. Also his gun mode is a very realistic, although slightly oversized, Walther P-38. I can fully understand why you should never point him at a cop. Really the most amazing thing to me is how the engineers managed to to nail both modes and maintain all the articulation and attention to detail. Unlike other reviewers I had no problems with transforming him, although I would suggest looking for videos of his transformation on youtube since the instructions can be hard to follow. I really have nothing negative to say about him except that I wish he would have come with a stock and silencer like the old G1 toy, but you can get a set as an add on.

Pros: Awesome amount of detail and articulation. Sturdy. Some really nice accessories like the energon mace and sword.

Cons: Slightly oversized in gun mode, but that's not a huge thing in my opinion.

Final Thoughts: The biggest thing to remember is that this is not a toy. This is a figure made for collectors and not kids. The transformation is pretty complex and there are small pieces that can and will break if not properly watched for.

5Wicked cool!!!  May 16, 2009
My fiancé was soooo excited when he opened this for Christmas! It came in a really cool box and does not have the orange cap when in gun mode. Kinda difficult and delicate to transform, but definately worth it! A very cool collectable. Would not recommend for children. Shipped very quickly.
