Indie Industries was started in 2005 with 4 of New York's Fashion Institute of Technology students.  What began as a showcase of their work quickly grew into a 15 person strong designer collective and wholesale showroom in busy Times Square.  In 2007 the company relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area to open the first Indie Industries retail location in downtown Berkeley.  They have since opened the doors of their flagship retail store in San Francisco's eclectic and historic North Beach district with future San Francisco locations in the works.  In 2009 Indie Industries partnered with Amazon.com to bring you a safe and reliable online collection of their work and the designers they work with.

shannon dean

Shannon learned to screen print as a youth playing in punk bands making DIY shirts and stickers, and cutting random strangers hair in their kitchens while on tour.  He figured that he would eventually become marginally famous and die of drug overdose at the age of 27 but luckily pursued hairschool as a backup.  He worked for a few years as a hairdresser and educator before relocating to the bay area to join our ranks as a designer and the creative director of Indie Industries.  If you want to get on his good side trade him tattoo work for haircuts, put some Smiths on the jukebox, or buy him a few Templeton Ryes.

designer natalia

Natalia left Minneapolis, MN right after high school to try and discover her true passions in SF. After making the switch from one year at the traditional University of San Francisco she continued on to graduate from the San Francisco Art Institue where she worked on photo based etchings, fabric construction and soft sculptures, as well as a small collection of artist books. She left SFAI with a BFA specialising in printmaking, and a drive for a new creative outlet, which lead her to join the Indie team as Art Director. As well as creating window displays and installing the latest art show after hours, you will sometimes see Natlia working on her latest knit scarf or eating a pastry from Brioche next door, yum! while still searching for new projects and facilities in the printmaking community.

designer mike

After working as a print model for over ten years to pay his way through college, Mike merged his creative skills with his fashion experience to persue a masters in fashion design at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology. While at FIT, Mike formed an alliance with other emerging designers to create what is now the Indie Industries label and designer owned collective.

Mike is the lead designer of Indie Industries and currently works as the Fashion Director for the collective. One of Mike's key contributions has been working together with community organizations and non-profits in which over $52,500.00USD has been donated in cash and in-kind gifts since Indie Industries began. He has been awarded the National Leadership Award by the United States Congress for his work.
